ART FOR LEADERSHIP
UNDERSTANDING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
When I think of copyright, my mind immediately goes to art. It's the stuff that makes me think of my favorite books and films and music, even though I know that not everyone shares my love of visual art. But that's the thing about copyright: it's a right that extends beyond the visual arts into every form of creative expression.
The law protects you from having your work stolen or copied by others. In other words, if someone steals your work and sells it under their own name or uses it without giving you credit for it (like in a book review), they could be sued for copyright infringement, - Douglas Ogutu CEO Dowe Music & Arts
This is why it's so important to understand IP rights when you're trying to protect your creations and why we do everything we can at Dowe Music & Arts to educate our artists about what they've created and how it should be protected.
Arts is one of the most powerful tools of communication. Art helps us understand and communicate with different cultures. By sharing ideas and emotions, it opens our minds and makes us think, allowing us to see the world differently, through the mind of the creator. Though we may not know the language of an artist, we can still understand his feelings and ideas when we hear his music or see her photography. Art goes beyond words in helping us connect with people from different cultures, despite language and other barriers.
Dowe Music & Arts is proud to introduce two of our young Art for leadership pioneers,
The life of Edwin Maina, aka Ray B, is one that has been shaped by the streets.
He was once a street child himself, and so he knows how to speak their language. He knows how to get past the barriers that keep people apart, and he knows how to build bridges between them. He wants to make an impact in the community through art and entertainment. He knows what it's like to feel alive on stage.
And so his music does exactly that: it celebrates the human marks people make on this planet—the local landmarks, the small-scale details that make things beautiful—and it respects all of those things in equal measure. It finds beauty in unlikely places like battered old porches or eccentric designs; it treasures what's been built for themselves by others; it finds humor in whatever is being made out of caring. He will be releasing his first debut song NANI ft Young C this weekend.
Collins Omondi AKA Young Crown (Young C) is 23 years old and is a rising star in the music industry. He has an incredible voice and is passionate about expressing his deep love for Kenya and the world through music. His passion for fashion, music, and healthy competition have made him a successful entrepreneur in the arts.
Young Crown wants to inspire others who have talent to make it in life—and he works out regularly, loves fashion and dressing up, and listens to good music.
